Agenda:
- World Carfree Day: Our press was a disaster for World Carfree Day because Arie took press calls and didn't have information on the events that were organised. She put a good face on it and did supply them with what she knew, but there needed to be a project coordinator for World Carfree Day who would collect the information directly from the groups doing the events, and give that to the press person. A lesson for next time. We knew we needed a project coordinator, and Roeland had agreed to fill this role at some point, but the biketour took up too much of his time. Steve has a project description and timeline that we should sit down with and structure it for next year. Needs outreach to member groups, etc. well before the event regarding what materials they need. To be a central hub of information we need to provide basic online materials: guidebook, self-running online searchable database, logo, poster, facts and figures, inspiring call to action, press release template, etc. Then we need to be a resource for what is happening and where, including communication with the press person. Rob thinks most of it could be handled with a strong web presence. We agree that we can't go another year handling the project this way - we have to do it properly for 2007. Rob did a guidebook for Seattle that can be modified and updated. Pending the availablility of funds, we agree to hire Rob half-time as webmaster specifically including the creation of online resources for World Carfree Day 2007. Steve will be leaving after November 3. We will discuss who will be the WCFD 2007 project coordinator at our big meeting in November.
- Fundraiser position: Arie is organising the second round of interviews for next Wednesday. Steve and Steven will take part in the selection.
- Mobycon 'Carfree Communities' STEER application: Randy will read what is being proposed for us as a partner in this project, and report back next week in the
- Who will be the Steering Committee liaison?: We need to fill the position by November 3rd. We'll decide this at our big November meeting.
- New Society Publishers, which is interested in the English version of 'The Carbusters Reader', if they agree to publish it, could advance US$3,000 from the sales proceeds which could help us supplement the funds available from the International Visegrad Fund. This could be used for the salaries of one or two book editors.
