ICC Meeting August 3
Present: Steve, Randy, Arie, Tanja
ANNOUNCEMENTS
New York City press working group (about Critical Mass arrests) will produce action alert and press release for one-year anniversary of mass arrests of August 2004. We have contact in NYC.
Steve is on vacation next week.
Tanja may have to go to Finland at end of month.
Interviews for Lutra's replacement will be on Monday August 8 from 11 to 2.
AGENDA
1. 501(c)(3) - nonprofit status in U.S.A.
We need US$ 1,000 in start-up money for this tax year.
Problems with filing: We have had difficulty with Jason Meggs, who is our representative in US, replying promptly to emails. Randy and Arie will try to call him after the meeting and to solve outstanding questions such as the $1,000 and his availability.
2. Large donations
We recently received a donation for EUR 1,999. In the past, we had said that doners who give large amounts of money can decide how this money is spent. Arie suggests that funders should not determine the direction of WCN, but that for unexpected donations over EUR 500 and if doners who do not specify where the money should go, the ICC will send the Steering Committee a recommendation for where to spend the money. Randy will communicate with SC.
3. Global Wallace Fund
Randy says Steering Committee has on its agenda the proposed "Mobility Justice Campaign." If it is going to be a centralised project, we need approval. Possible project for WCN - US.
4. World Carfree Day
If we are to promote WCFD in the future, we need someone to coordinate the effort. Arie suggests that we use an EVS volunteer, but Randy isn't sure if they would have the necessary experience. If that volunteer came from a member organisation, this would help. We will look into possibility of member groups sending youth volunteers to come to us through the EVS program.
WCFD website will have poster, ecards, etc. We will offer discounted magazines, cards, stickers, etc.
5. Follow-up from conference
Need to write follow-up message to participants. Steve will write. Contents: thank you (also from Judit) what is on the website (photos, presentations, movies, new AB and SC). Metions listserv (with rules). Monthly bulletin and magazine.
6. E-mail to members
mention AGM minutes etc. on Member site
give out password to member site
mention leaflets
possibly mention EVS possibility
Budapest
magazine distribution
decisions from AGM (voluntary membership fees, magazine subscription etc.)
We need contact person (liaison to network)
7. Conference in Poznan, Poland
We were invited to participate. Not sure if anyone from ICC can go, but Todd has expressed interested to represent both the WCN and his On the Train project. Would combine with trip to Warsaw to meet other possible OTTF partners. We ask that at the same time he organise meetings with all the Polish partners and with municipalities etc as agreed in the Milieukontakt grant. Todd will first ask if conference cam cover travel/accomodation before using Milieukontakt money.
We will give him the WCN leaflets to hand out. Talking points are up to Todd.
