Randy is in Istanbul from Saturday Jan. 26 to Tuesday February 6. It is planning meeting for TCFC and our youth exchange which will happen after it.
The Carfree Ecovillage group in France has found a site and put a bid for the property (there is another candidate). It is in the exact middle of France, and it is a flat 52 hectare farming area and it is 2 km from a town with a train station. They will know in about a week.
Radka has more work now than her 3/4 time allows for, so Kamila proposes that she be moved to full-time; Kamila is proposing that she will work full-time from January to March - proposal accepted
Agenda:
Carbusters Magazine
Financial Update/Grants
Randy in UK/Justin Coming/new roles
Biketour/Roeland's role
Carbusters Magazine
Rob, the editor, needs a liasion for the magazine
Bas can be the liasion person
there will be a meeting tomorrow to designate tasks regarding the magazine; Bas will write Rob to ask him what he would like to be brought up at the meeting
Financial Update/Grants
We are getting GBP 5000 from Polden-Puckham
in the next six months, we will get 6500 EUR from EYF (the last part of last year's grant and the first part of this year's grant)
We will also get money from the Visegrad Fund for our most recent expenses (this will be applied for by the end of the week)
We should hear in February whether we get the MobyCon grant
We have applied to the Open Society in Turkey for matching funds for the youth exchange in Istanbul after the conference
Membership fees from the organization
Christi will draft a letter to Mark Brown which a few of us will sign
In terms of wages, we will lower wages of the contract people so that their wages are the same as the employment people (after taxes), and we will reevaluate this when we get core 2007 funding
Randy in UK/Justin Coming
Justin is interested in working here full-time, Prague-based; his timing is flexible
he will be at youth exchange in Istanbul at the end of April, and then he would be cycling until the end of May, so he could theoretically start June 1
He would like to be limited to 3 projects + the steering committee: MobyCon Carfree Communities, Magazine, youth exchange in Istanbul, and Visegrad Grant; he is less interested in WCFD coordination
Randy's role: His visa expires at end of March
If he would work from the UK, the cost of living would be more
two possibilities for more wages: Autoholics Anonymous and MobyCon grant
The 5000 GBP grant for Autoholics Anonymous is for a staff member based in the UK (the idea behind the grant)
Decision: we will see how much money is left over from the two autoholics grants, and then decide how much can be paid to Randy from April 1 to Dec. 31
Steven and Christi still need to meet to talk about media
Carfree Day Meeting: Tuesday, February 6, at 4 pm: Randy, Bas, Steven, Kamila, Christi (Steven will get pre-input from Rob for before the meeting)
video ideas for Bas: Turkey project; five minute film about WCN; ideas behind wcn (i.e. what is in the charter
Biketour
EYFA was surprised that we do not want to apply for Biketour, as they think it will work out just fine
Roeland is proposing to apply for Biketour funding, working without pay, and in the event that we get the grant, he would be paid retroactively
The Ecotopia would start Aug. 5; so the biketour exchange would start 21 days before this in mid-July
If we tell the European Commission that we need the money in advance, they might be able to advance it to us
The decision: It is possible to simplify the rules but not within biketour because of the differing approaches of WCN and the biketour; Kamila believes that it is not possible to simplify the project, as here and Radka experienced many difficulties with the project last year
Roeland proposes to not apply for the project, but he is interested in working on other exchange projects
